Jon Steven Young was born on October 11, 1961, in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. He studied at Greenwich High School in Connecticut and was interested in football from an early age. He started to make his career in college and after graduation from school  studied at Brigham Young University, where he not only set many sports records, but also became extremely popular among other students.
