Armand Duplantis, a Swedish-American pole vaulter who was born on November 10, 1999, currently holds the world record with a height of 6.21 meters.

He holds a variety of age group world records and won gold in the 2015 World Youth Championships as a 15-year-old.

Duplantis won the gold medal at the Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2021, then at the 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships, he won the title of world champion.

The Swedish pole vaulter was born to parents who competed professionally as athletes. His mother Helena who is the subject matter in this post was a heptathlete and volleyball player.

She competed in both disciplines for the Swedish national teams. Helena encouraged her son to learn his native tongue as a second language which he did.

According to her, he had to take classes over skype to improve his understanding of the Swedish language and in no time he was rattling it like a native.

He however felt shy speaking it in public but feels comfortable when he is doing it in private because he felt he wasn’t perfect yet.

He can now grant public interviews in his native tongue because he is super fluent now.
