Of championship weekend from making three games of the book this afternoon to more to go tonight.
The quality the five eight the four is up first though and to call it for you, Stew, Clyde Tenet and the elevator from Decatur.
Herb White.
Hey, guys, How's it going?
We're ready for a great one.
It should be exciting to play tonight here along with Herb White.
And we're hearing the music in the background.
We like the tempo, we like the beat, which could be our theme tonight, Herb, the tempo of this game and who can make it go their way might come out the winner, no doubt about it.
Stu North Atlanta's really going to up tempo this game.
Let's look at how they got to this championship game and there you see Central going out with 19 point victory or 21 point victory over West Lake in the semifinals.
They really look good in that ballgame.
And if we want to see one of the best young player, whether it's boys or girls, we're going to see it right here in this game.
And this is the young lady that can do it all.
No doubt about it.
Stephanie Higgs is a heck of a player.
She's only a sophomore this season.
She set an all time one season scoring record in central Gwinnett history, only as a sophomore.
The other key player, central Gwinnett, is Michelle Kopp.
And those two players are going to have to bring their A-game tonight to compete against this North Atlanta squad.
And as you bring up north Atlanta, you say one of the more athletic teams that you have seen in this tournament, they set the tempo.
They like to run.
You've got to slow them down.
Yeah, There's a road they had here, a pretty good ball game against Creekside in the semifinals.
They finally wore them down.
And that's the key with this North Atlanta club.
They're going to throw a 2 to 1 zone press.
Actually, they're a lot like Savannah, as you saw the boys championship game last night.
And finally, they are relentless.
They'll play ten players, maybe 12, and they'll try to wear you down.
And the two players that make them go kind of an inside outside tandem.
Danielle Ingram may be the best athlete, male or female in this basketball term.
From what I've seen, she can run and she can jump and she's a heck of a basketball player.
And Kelly Sanders not too bad herself averaging almost 15 points a game, also shooting 50% from the field, which means that they're getting some good transition baskets.
She's a great big post player and she blocks a lot of shots.
One of the keys is going to be quite wide is about 6 to 4 Central Gwinnett, a center player.
If she can neutralize Kelly at all, then we might have a heck of a ballgame.
And we will show you the starting lineups for both teams as we get ready for the introduction.
But two young teams, we've experienced some of these games already.
The nurse gets here in the beginning and as we run it down, you mentioned Coughlin.
Peach is a great player.
It's Lillard Guard Moore and White at center good two centers in this with a lot of size Let's send it over and listen to the starting lineup share for the quarter championship girls game first let's watch the starting lineup for those lady nights.
Let's get ready to rumble.
Oh yeah.
Have you touch it for the starting line ups?
First for Central Clinton, then add forward a five foot nine sophomore.
Number three, Stephanie Higgs at forward, a five foot nine junior.
Number 11, Lindsey Moore at center, a six foot two, senior number 23 player.
Why a guard, a five foot 11 senior.
And number 12, Michelle Conklin at guard, a five foot five junior, Number 20, Ashley Little and Central for Nets coach cast to seal ball for North Atlanta.
You see smalls glass and guard the inbound player and leader of this team in the middle and then you see a senior leadership across the front line which could make a difference.
Let's go over and listen to North Atlanta starting lineup for this quarter championship round and forward, a five foot ten senior number 52 to Neal Lloyd at Center, a six foot two senior and number 50 Alley Sanders at guard, a five for three senior.
Number 11.
She can take small hits guard a five foot six senior number 14 key on the glass and gantlet lineups.
Coach, coach Kathy Washington.
Well, there you have it.
The starting lineup since the quarter eight girls championship.
It is North Carolina against center for that sit back and enjoy funding for broadcast of the GHC boys and girls basketball championships is provided in part by the following Integrity, innovation, accountability, Community Commitment.

Welcome back to the Quad eight Girls High School championship.
Hi everybody Soo cool I Tenneco learn with Herb White in what should be an interesting matchup as they all have been.
It is north Atlanta against central Gwinnett here in Macon.
It's been a sensational weekend of high school games Herb you've seen most of them but this game has got a lot of different scenarios going.
It's got a lot of young talent and I can't wait to see how Central really does try to get that North Atlanta team slowed down.
Yeah, we got a little revenge factor and right now we got a really nice presentation.
Let's listen to basketball tournament at Georgia Tech Coliseum and part of it here in Macon, Georgia.
In 1967, the racial barriers were broken when we brought on Mr. Leroy Hambrick to officiate a ball game with Johnny Gholston, who is with us tonight and who has been directing the Exchange Club and the group that sponsors this tournament here in Macon.
Each year for the last 40 years.
And we certainly appreciate Mr. Golson also, but in honor of Mr. Hambrick, who could not be with us, we have standing and Mr. Napoleon Jenkins and Mr. Jenkins tells me about the clinics that he attended that Mr. Leroy Hambrick attended.
We're trying to do appreciate it, and for that we would like to present them with a little token of our appreciation.
Domestic Golson Thank you very much.
And to Mr. Leroy Hamburg, thank you very much.
Thank you for being here tonight, too.
Back in 1967, that's when that happened.
And I remember a lot of the games those guys were working with Robert Short.
Let's go over courtside.
Rob will be there all game for us.
Rob, take it away.
Central Central Finance Michelle Carson underwent offseason knee surgery, but she was healthy enough to start the year, but the coaches held her out in the first couple of games.
They were afraid the opposition would go after that surgically repaired knee.
Now I know that sounds more WW after GHC, but hey, these are not delicate flowers on this for tonight's Do watch a lot of letters but I understand one thing they're not going to go after tonight because you say she's one of the people that make that central Gwinnett team go yeah, I was I watched that game last year.
Of course, this north Atlanta beat this squad last year for the state championship.
They were in a lower classification.
They've moved up.
So a little revenge factor there.
The teams know each other well and Coach Cosell knows what he's got to do against Coach Washington's press.
And if they can beat that press and they can get down there and get in the halfcourt offense, they can score against this team.
And also, Stephanie Higgs, great ball handler, and she can take it the length of the floor and beat the press by herself.
But are they going to be able to withstand the relentless pressure and the number of players that are going to be thrown at them is the question.
All right.
So I want to get to state before the game already started.
We've got the revenge factor.
We've got girls going after another girls, me.
This is this is truly the XFL that we've got going here.
So let's see what happens.
It should be an interesting and fun match up to watch North Atlanta.
So talented, so quick center Gwinnett with two outstanding players.
And it should be an interesting game to see if they can match up with both Atlanta fire officials for tonight's ball game.
Napoleon Jenkins, Keith Summer and Derrick Taylor will be calling this one.
And they're going to be running up and down the floor a lot tonight.
Here we go.
Get ready for the girls championship, about ready to get started and here we go.
North Atlanta will control it looks for some quickness and look for establishing things inside man to man two Central Gwinnett as they step things up.
Shot is up, shot is good Nice shot from Danielle Ingram And a note to the center I told you she's a player she is an unbelievably great athlete.
And as you mentioned at North Atlanta, pressure full court so far.
Central Gwinnett breaks the press nicely.
Editors man demand for North Atlanta as well Open shot wide open Sweetwater is off the back of the rim and over Ashley Little we'll be taking those all night and she'll hit a few of them too.
Yeah she's a good shooter.
Michelle Conklin excellent passer.
She can shoot, so you have to protect against her.
Shoot and she'll pass off.
Now look down the other end.
Play wide, just about the same size, height wise as Kelly Sanders, but giving up a lot of weight.
But there she can stay out of foul trouble in the gate her it's going to be a ball game still staying in there I have a man just underway seven two outlet turnover they're not allowed to try to control but central Gwinnett gets it back spreading it out several bonus and Cochran is at the point she's tall which means she'll get some open shots and shoot over people offensive foul or is it?
Yes etc.. Good at talking things over and saying look for the open person and we shall see if they can find the open person because they have a very good quick defense already.
You can tell from North Atlanta, as her mentioned, early going long three pointer off the back, no good.
Ingram thought she'd take another and center good with the rebound trying to attack early going quarters championship tough shot Stephanie Higgs though they kind of bailed out on that when she was fourth in that shot taking a bow and should've let her take that and probably wouldn't have made it anyhow.
Keep your eye on number 14.
Also be on the glass for North Atlanta.
She got hot in this tournament last year and she kept firing all night long.
She never saw a shot.
She didn't like somebody said same thing about Houston.
It's very true.
It's very true.
I figured if you're if you can see the basket, you can throw it up at the basket to win.
626 North Atlanta up early.
Who's looking at Stephanie Higgs?
Only a softball.
How about FSU, UGA, Duke have all been in to see the sophomore, only a sophomore, 2 to 624 just underway in the quarter.
Girls championship looks like a little zone action by central Gwinnett and then they'll match up north Atlanta on the attack No good rebound for central to that you can see the different pace or you can see central holds it back north.
Atlanta likes to attack a little more now.
Nice move by Stephanie Higgs.
There should be two players got the open shot, couldn't get it down.
Play wide with the rebound We've got the foul and coach Cassel is going to change up her defenses Try to make north Atlanta have to work more on offense down here and run some time slow that pace down but not a bad idea Make it a shorter game.
Working on the outside center looks inside.
Nice pass, but nope, not to be to the hoop and they reset what's purple up and good.
No good off the rim good drive but not to be for white inside.
So here comes north Atlanta on the attack again still a little tight early in the game but to the holiday one shot and a good hoop to the hole Nicely done here on the glass I mentioned she likes to throw it up there and that's a tough break for Central Garnet because way White picked up that foul on guarding the little man and you want her to use those fouls against Kelly Sanders in there.
So that hurts central Gwinnett right there for quite quite wide to pick up her first foul glass to senior five six to complete the three pointer if she does so it's 5 to 532 left north Atlanta with an early three point lead central attacking not today and sometimes if you think you have that open shot on the press, that's what they want you to take a long pass Nicely done by Ingram for the fast break a59 senior puts it in 7 to 2 and you can't hardly throw a pass over her heads do she can really run Well I have to tell you whoever threw that pass I hope the Falcons are here scouting because that's the best pass I've seen all season.
I like to find out that Danielle has to be a track star too, because she can run and jump.
And so far, pace and tempo favor North Atlanta Central goodness had a couple of good shots.
They just haven't gotten them to go down.
It'll be a long three quarter up and good nicely done by Ashley Little seven five north Atlanta by two.
They don't have to move that speaker overhead if she's going to keep putting that kind of arc on the ball.
Yeah, that caught a little one up in the cloud and they had a warning for a couple of other hanging things here in the Coliseum inside north Atlanta attacking.
But I'll tell you what, they move the ball inside and out.
Well, Coach, we will tell you about the coaches as the game progresses.
Some interesting stories there, too.
Boy, they're not shy to take the three pointers, even if they're air boss.
Not to be that time by small little off right now to get a closer look at that defense and maybe some kind of geek defense there as I call it, looked like they might have had a triangle and two triangles inside and guarding the two guards, man to man, trying to ask Kelly Sanders inside.
We'll take another look when they put the ball back in play.
Megan Ballard in small out and north Atlanta to trigger in nice play does not go but there's a foul on the play if that's on coy why that so second and that really hurts central and you are right because Coach Caswell was looking down the bench going oh inbound pass and we get triggered and very quickly north Atlanta all over the boards, but not to be with the shot and central going out will try to run up no good rebound north Atlanta and they'll try to run it You better believe it they've got the numbers Oh great Play Well, I'll tell you what, both teams are scrappy, early going seven five north Atlanta, 4 minutes to go.
First quarter quite a girls championship.
Glad you're with us to play quite a curve right here in Macon and it has been up and down Great play by Ashley Little there to say that ball from going out of bounds and point why it's going to have to take a see just what Coach Cassell didn't want to have to do take his big guy or big player out of the ballgame and let's see how long she stays on the back.
She comes off with 4 minutes to go in the first quarter.
North Atlanta, great perimeter defense, Long, long three pointer.
All right.
The court up steals it back and they going to take it.
Oh, that's a nice move up in an ambush.
She does have some talent.
The spin move by Stephanie Higgs.
Very nicely done.
Almost averaged 20 points a game when you consider she's only a sophomore.
Not bad.
Yeah.
Central going has got a great basketball history men's and women's and she set the all time single season scoring record in only her sophomore year.
So great things to come for her and again play right picked up two fouls neither one of them while she was guarding Kelly Sanders.
And I'm sure that Coach Gasol is going to tell her you've got to be careful and make sure those fouls count when you give them first the most good, second one all the way up and we're tied up seven seven with 336 left.
Yeah, North Atlanta pressing all over the floor.
But somebody forgot to tell Stephanie Hege.
She didn't even notice.
And you're right, little zone action or match up action inside to note that Carolina up in gets the basket was Sanders Daly Sanders six three and she can just get put those hands up and get the ball back There's the pressure by north Atlanta clean off north Atlanta will trigger it again and we're looking for the break almost every time down to the hoop, but no good.
We're not doing a good job on the boards.
They have to yeah, they've got to take good shot selection because they're not going to get many offensive rebounds.
Got to travel.
Could have been foul, too.
But I'll tell you what, I like kids already.
I mean, she's aggressive.
She doesn't mind going to the basket.
She's got to be careful.
It's a fine line between trying to do too much and doing just enough.
But a nice move there just took the extra step.
North Atlanta offensive inside refs saw something.
Charlie Sanders going at it pretty good with the Heather Hawkins in playing to play wide and they were really bumpin.
We're going to keep an eye on that they're throwing elbows back and forth, getting physical North Atlanta continues to put the pressure on central Gwinnett saying, come on and give us a little help especially Ashley Little who could be worn out before this game is over.
She's got the ball.
She's in control, and she will be most of this night on the press.
Got an eight count before they got it over north Atlanta with the steal.
That's what they do off that press to the hoop Nice pass up no good bit fouled and that is Megan Ballard five six Jenner and nicely done The press is working well I think that's the first turnover they've had against it actually and just a bad pass by Stephanie There just wasn't a player there to throw it to.
And Michelle Carson picks up that phone.
She's absolutely a player.
They can't afford to lose.
Sometimes we we say that you know, it's not only just the turnovers, but it's the pace of the game.
Sometimes there's coaches horrible in that press will say I look not so much stealing the ball, just make them take a shot quickly.
And I think central Gwinnett has taken a couple of shots quicker and they really wanted to exactly get them out of what they normally like to do.
Ten 740 Atlanta up with 214 first quarter.
Oh, a little bit of a weave out in front.
I think north Atlanta is going to their triangle defense.
What is it?
I don't know but I just saw a player signal triangle.
So that's what I'm guessing they got the scouting report on Parker.
Do not let her have anything outside.
She can She can really shoot from out there.
So you could see the pressure in the third.
And both of these good free throw shooting teams, especially central Gwinnett, to put them on the line, they're going to make about 80% of 2 minutes to go in the first quarter.
Ten seven north Atlanta with the pressure all over the court.
So the hole and the foul and she'll go to the line.
Stephanie Higgs is not taking over yet, but she's certainly aggressive foul on Kimberly Stephens.
And she's also six two for North Atlanta.
They've got some size.
Also number 30, a naked jawara is about five, ten, five, 11.
She really hits the ball, retired.
She's an excellent rebounder.
There's one good second one on the way and it rims out.
So it's ten eight north Atlanta by a hoop, 149 left in the first quarter.
So far so good for both coaches.
Actually.
It's tight to the hoop out of bounds turnover just as I mentioned.
Of course, coaches have to be happy.
Nope, it's going with a lot of work.
They are aggressive, all fences, no doubt about that.
Here's Coach Carswell, Dad, the second winningest coach in the history of Georgia basketball.
He said he's only about 800 wins behind his dad.
A little bit of a push.
This is a physical game so far.
Fiona, go ahead.
She likes to take the jumper.
She'll take it inside.
That was a nice dish there.
And so far, central Gwinnett, as long as they can handle that pressure, I think it's going to be a ball game.
And they're so well coached.
The press may not bother them that much.
North Atlanta to trigger in and here we go central going to back into man to man and it is getting physical There's elbows this four arms being thrown around 45 seconds the first 26 the central Gwinnett big folks inside getting into a little bit of a foul situation.
We are outside the three pointers off the rim.
No good and it's a jump ball.
Grass doesn't mind firing it up In my mind.
That's just fine.
Well, when you get to rebound rebounds in there like she's got right now throw it up there and let them go to work.
It's almost like hockey.
Dump it in and see what happens.
But you're right there.
You see the replay.
Oh, nice steal by Michelle.
But boy, that was a quick jump call There.
Good pressure by central Gwinnett.
What's the result in going their way getting asked them, giving them a little bit of their own medicine.
And we talked about the press and you talked about the fact sometimes the press defections to get them shoot quick.
And the other thing, again, having to battle that press the whole game can wear you down physically.
And in the fourth quarter, it can make a difference.
Stephanie Hicks beautiful pass underneath, easy layup, nicely done.
She can beat the press by herself and when they have to come get her because she can score, she's going to dish it off.
Good look Heather Hawkins knows if you just stand to that hoop you'll get the basket 1010, less than a minute left, first quarter in competitive and it's been well played They are launching them in out no good 131 zone pretty effective because they're not playing it passively they're really getting out there and trapping when they get a chance.
And that can be an effective defense.
Yeah, you just feel bad for the one in the one because they do the most running and also takes away those wing jump shots that Danielle Ingram loves.
North Atlantic continues to press central Gwinnett continues to break the press.
Let's see how they do here.
Back and forth they go and there it is.
Turnover that good idea but it heads up play their cross court chances are against the press it's not going to work.
North Atlanta on the attack very nicely done this outs with that hoop or I should say Ingram excuse me Ingram for the hook one desperation shot with just a second to go and after the first it has been a competitive game in the quarter girls championship it's north Atlanta 12 central going to ten.
We're back right after this.

I don't think that I'm that kind of person.
I'm so not what people think.
So took that day.
You're watching the USA Basketball Championships on TV.
Excited here at Macon for the quarter girls championship.
Let's go to our man courtside Rob Tribble Guys I've been wondering the baseline and if you look at the faces of Central Net, they're getting kind of frustrated.
The size and speed and the pressure defense of North Atlanta is kind of throwing them off their rhythm.
And Coach Caswell over there, his veins popping out of his head, they're really frustrated right now.
They're probably fortunate to only be down by two.
STU All right.
Well, let's get them to relax over there.
We know we need no veins popping out of heads.
Well, they're only two down, and they're not feeling very good.
If they get relaxed, they could jump out there.
Sure.
That's just the north Atlanta up as we start the second quarter by a hoop.
And they are going to attack down the way as a foul.
Took a hard foul.
But she bounces up and right now she and Michelle both are playing their ball game and that's what they have to do.
And considering that they're quite white, they're six two centers out of the ballgame.
They're hanging in there pretty good.
Well, is early going, but Hicks seems to be able to get to the hoop at will, but this went up for some good.
And coach Washington also keeping Bailey Sanders out of the ballgame.
So she's going to blow over the left.
Jones checking in for North Carolina.
Second shot up.
Second shot is good So 12, 12, 754 here all tied up central.
Looks like they're in a man to man and they are in north Atlanta taking a little more time and using that box offense, just trying to find something, picking it away.
That's defense thank you for that.
Gets the ball looking.
And it is Higgs who is running this show so far.
Central Gwinnett showing some patience, looking for the shots, calling the offense and seeing what they can get.
15 footer up, 15 footer.
Good.
Well, north Atlanta is not the same offensive team without Kelly Sanders in there.
She really is a great post player and they've got some other big players, but none of them have the talent that Taylor does.
And it really changes their offense.
And also they don't get the second shots that they normally would get.
Judy Bryant showing some range.
As you see the field goals, No.
One shooting the ball that great, But North Atlanta, 5 to 13 center going up three for 11.
So maybe it's the defense or just a little tightness in the first quarter.
We should see.
But those are the kind you're supposed to call if we're going to count them, right?
Yeah, well, we said that yesterday, too.
Yeah.
Jones Off the board, it only counts two unless you're playing horse.
I've only got a few lines.
Do I have to use them more than once?
That's all right.
We didn't hear it the first time.
Here.
Ball up, Ball.
Put that ball and up and up and good And your third quarter.
A little bit of excitement.
Nicely done by Judy Bryant who followed her shot.
Once you shoot it, just go after it.
Yeah.
Good job Judy Bryant came in hit the jump shot right off, then gets the big rebound, knocks it down and now going to the three point play.
So she's making her presence felt right away.
You can choose your lines as many as you like.
I will watch.
I'll laugh every time, often.
Good bye, Bryant.
And she's got a pretty good line now.
1714 Central Gwinnett with a little bit of a lead north Atlanta slowing it down on offense.
Well too seem to be slowing the pace down Long jumper no good back room and I believe it's over the back sometimes when you hit a three pointer on one side, you get a little excited on the other end of the court, three a little surprised that Coach Washington is keeping Kelly Sanders out of the ballgame as long as she has central Gwinnett making a little run.
Oh, one in the one on one situation here, 21 for four.
These girls can shoot free throws too.
I'm telling you, I'm just fundamentally very good.
Yeah, I got it.
Well, you're good fashion when it counted about 70%.
But, you know, like you say the last few minutes.
Sure.
I'm not going watch all the is when it comes Willie the fans to figure that one out is up good 1716 I think I tell you if I was a bad free throws you know it's been so long since you played how would I know somebody else is going to remember?
Central could have down my run Conklin offensive foul we'll put it out there Oh man that's yeah that was a kind of a tough call there but that's our second foul and they really cannot afford to show confidence to be in foul trouble.
So Coach Gasol's got something to think about.
Yeah, he's got to go and get her out of there right now.
Go 604 in the second quarter, whatever you do, let's see a little bit of a touch foul.
Normally that's on defense, but that was on offense That could have gone.
Yeah that's you hate to see that and in the championship game against a great player but that's what they pay those guys to do make the call you know early go and it was very physical in there letting things go but now trying to get things under control I guess 1716 central going to all as a call you don't see much anymore the old three second quarter oh we were playing you had to hustle through there you know All right well more like the two and a half seconds in there.
So you got it gets the North Carolina press, which has been on all evening.
Whoa, There's the back court.
I knew it was coming.
They don't call it.
You see, those feet went back over, but Central going up brings it over.
Shot is up.
No got off the board and North Atlanta controls going for the bomb and let's see if they can get the easy layup on the transition.
Well they got a break they didn't call a foul.
And Stephanie Higgs looks like she might have had the contact.
Great hustle to catch up with Danielle Ingram.
I didn't think anybody could.
But you saw right away how central put it.
Let's see the replay here.
They got her a little bit on the arm.
There's a little bit a little bit, maybe a scratch.
That's about it.
Another another view.
And the only view that counted, I guess, was the referees.
But they took Michelle Compton and right away they had more problem with the press getting the ball up so you can see how her absence is going to affect them.
North Atlanta, inside north Atlanta with the hope.
Heather Hawkins strong inside.
So now 1817 North Atlanta takes the lead for the first time in a long time.
And you're right about the press.
They're going backwards and forwards.
But this brings it over on a player up.
No, but on North Atlanta, controlling the boards wide open, they did that one.
That was a nice pass by Stephanie Higgs.
Really worked through the defense.
You couldn't get the shot to go down north Atlanta with the ball.
Bring it up.
By the way, you can listen and watch all the state playoff games on the Internet.
Simply go to WW dot GPB dot org and follow the links.
All the games will be available for you the entire month.
That's w w w dot GP because North Atlanta trying to set things up, slow things down and look for the good shot.
I suspect coach Gasol would like to keep this.
If he can keep this game within two or three or four points, he's probably going to keep Michelle Carson on the bench if they really get down, he may have to bring her back in this first half.
So we'll keep an eye on that.
And those third thousand high school are huge, especially in the first half when you got a star player up and it could have been a while, but they call the foul on the basket.
It's not good, but Diggs called for the foul.
I believe he owned a glass looking for that shot again, three and so two starters with two fouls for central Gwinnett.
And it's going to be interesting to see if they can hang tough in this first half.
It's so starters on the bench glass court the first up and good and you're certainly right her this north Atlanta today and fundamentally at the line so solid that rotation 1917 North Atlanta with another shot to make it a three point lunch and they do 434 left first quarter.
Glad you're with us for the quad eight girls championship and what's been a tight game the entire way so far.
There's Higgs trying to break the press by herself, which is tough to do.
Higgs pulls up Nice pass inside And there's the hack.
Lindsay Moore will be going to the line of five nine junior and she scored a bunch the other night just like that Stephanie Higgs break in the pressure and pass it to her under the basket.
She is also a good free throw shooter.
Well, if you play with someone like kids, you know, just spot up.
Just go to the hoop.
They're going get it to you.
Just be patient.
Yeah.
She really, really sees The Court Well, Lindsay's first try out first try Good.
Well, it's just a pleasure to watch people make free throws.
One not exactly from a Shaquille O'Neal School of Fashion.
Well, it's becoming a, you know, gotten part of the game, it seems like, in college a lot of these days, both are good.
So north Atlanta by one, actually, Shaq's foul shots are darn near 48% now.
So he's really improved early, makes 100% of his dunks.
I thought you were going to say he made 100% of his money.
North Atlanta on the attack.
That's tied up no good.
A scramble for the ball, but North Atlantic controls and the pace has slowed down just a bit.
And that's incentive the nets favor and the time running out the clock.
So it's not hurting them with their players on the bench a little bit of zone central going at once.
That outside shot taken and they will come way outside.
Nicely done.
It is good drive and with a nice shot Gwinnett still packing they get the 15 footer they get the shot Oh that was textbook to go it is three quick passes and shot to brandish it go inside and outside to 2320 12. game A little bit of a walk there though.
Some players have that mentality.
They can come off that bench and just start stroking it right away and so can come in and stroke it right away and miss, here we go.
Something good out.
Are you speaking from experience?
First of all, believe me, Central going out.
You're right, Herb, having a little trouble getting it over center court.
But when they do, they're getting good shots.
Oh, we got to complete that.
Yeah, Lindsey missed that one, and she'd like to have that back again.
Really nice work again against that press.
And we talked about good fashion in central Gwinnett is certainly doing that.
Yeah.
I think Coach Gasol go with ten of 11 just about every day Central going out looking outside it's Giggs off the rim no good and over the back that's not a shot that Stephanie Hicks needed to take about the 24 footer they got the ball in.
I bet they like to see it a little more clock run on that one.
Look, she's much better when she takes the ball to the basket.
Judy Bryant with the foul 2321 to 55 left in the second quarter.
And Atlanta, north Atlanta, go to the line.
Earlier today it was Jefferson over Wesley in 55 to 52.
The double a gassy over Union County by 22.
All right.
Now we're going to see what happens in the court of game.
First shot up.
First shot.
Good.
Jennifer Goins shooting, the second one, 24, 25, 21, North Atlanta by four.
That pressure is relentless.
Hicks tries to break it again, spinning, wheeling and dealing, and they will get the ball across.
Now let's see what they do when they get it across bombs away from.
And you know, you're right.
You know, they get the rebound.
It's up and the defensive foul, they might be triggering it just a little too quick here.
Yeah, you know, that's a little bit quick.
There's only 242 left in the half.
You're only down Oh, you down four.
So you want to get a good shot because.
You don't want to get down six or eight, you want to keep this thing close.
And Lindsay, you did a nice job of drawing the foul and she really didn't have much, but she's going to jump back into those two.
Heather Hawkins and got the call.
Lindsay Moore for two.
She's the first one who is good.
You're right.
You know what?
It's a it's a forgotten part of the game.
But it's nice to see two teams that will shoot foul shots, three points, two boards make it still three points.
Once Atlanta, the kids with the board of course, you did it yesterday in the quarter boys.
I'll do it today in the quarter.
Girls 234 left north Atlanta by three.
What's the ball slowing it down which might just be the advantage to Central going to have a little bit of foul trouble.
I would have thought they would have had Kelly Sanders back in there to take of the smaller lineup.
Two central Gwinnett and they are spreading it out to all four corners made famous by North Carolina and there's the turnover at center for that what's the run with a tough pass Wow takes this grabbed it away and trips and tries to get it back and North Carolina has it on a break.
No numbers and back and forth we get to check that ball Well it's a nice pass by Danielle Ingram.
Unfortunately it was the Lindsey Moore of the Central Gwinnett Club and what wow man, are they calling a foul?
They are.
And coach yourself is letting them know.
Well, I think they just called it now call it north Atlanta ball so they trigger in with 159 left the first quarter.
Oh there's been some turnovers in this one north Atlanta unbelievably north Atlanta with ten turnovers and they're the pressing team Yeah Picks jumper Yes 2524.
Nicely done This is a great ball games too.
I figured it was going to be a well-played game and it's lived up to everything we thought right so far.
We think it's going to go down to the wire.
I know it's early, but we thought this the whole time.
Again, North Atlanta spreading thing out almost a box, almost the four corners and cut through jumper up jumper no good And I'm not sure that's the shot you want although North Atlanta on the boards no good up and good Heather Hawkins working that board I'm telling she's tough in there and Danielle Ingram has a beautiful jump shot She gets over it quick, squares up, goes up straight, looks good every time Central going out on the attack shot is up and Lindsey no good Lindsey Moore no good but the rebound control and then loss and look out the long bomb intercepted right now if you're coaching Gwinnett settle down and get a good shot Don't take it quickly just as I say that goes off the ball.
No, take it and make it on Hawks.
Take that shot.
That's why we're over here and they're out there.
Katie STRASSEL, nice jumper off the board.
She said a lot of big shots tonight.
Well, that was big enough that it missed of it because Atlanta would have held the one and had a chance going to five.
Now it's a one point game 2726, as Herb mentioned, just 36.
And you got to think north Atlanta looking for one.
Let's see, maybe the hot shot is up, Shot is no good and still control by North Atlanta or is it?
No.
Central Gwinnett will take it on the break and her pulling up like pros.
We're not making a mike Brooks for the pulling up and another turnover and there's going to be a jump ball 15 seconds left 2726 non stop action.
I'm really surprised central Gwinnett should have pulled that ball out.
They'd had a chance to go in with the lead at half.
They worked for a good shot and you saw a shot of Cathy Worthington, North Atlanta's coach, who's probably saying can we settle it down a little?
Can we get a good shot?
15 seconds to go.
27, 26.
Cathy Washington, the coach of North Atlanta, Katy Stancil in the ballgame and she's a a little thing to the side.
That one up in a hurry.
15 seconds her.
Do you think they're taking the last shot here or not?
Well yeah they might get three shots in three possessions.
The way things are going, it is central going to putting some pressure on entertaining first half, no help.
Someone has to come to the ball.
And there we go.
Up and good Goins with the shot right at the buzzer.
What a first half it has been.
Wall to wall action, 2926 north Atlanta.
Let's go to Rob with one of the coaches courtside to see what they think of the first half.
Rob mirror central Gwinnett head coach Cass Kissel.
Coach this first half is more like Tyson Holyfield three It's very physical.
What can you guys do to solve their pressure defense Yeah they're letting us play tonight now that's okay but we'll do get filed out to make the foul shots.
We'll go We got to quit.
Let them have run outs.
We gave them my full run out tonight.
We got to stop that going.
Stop the run outs.
I think we'll be okay.
They're going to have to do it.
Bad shot selection.
That kinds of let them get out on the break.
Well, sometimes when we have run outs ourselves, we get five under.
No having my ball back and stay back.
It's the same thing that's been a problem all year.
So what are you gonna tell the girls at halftime?
Give us the G-rated version, please.
Yeah.
I'm very proud of our kids.
I played a real good first half.
We've had some people come in like Judy Bright and Katie.
They'd come in and give us some help.
And if we can get back in the ball game, she didn't play.
But about 3 minutes and get Michelle back in the ball game, I think we're going to be okay.
All right.
Good luck.
Second half, my work is done from down here.
All right, Rob, thank you very much.
Pretty good first half.
We'll be back with more action.

Trouble with North Atlanta Principal George Rutledge.
You know, you got a good basketball program, but there's some other things that your school to be proud of.
Tell me about some of your magnet programs all at Northern on high school.
We take pride in the two magnet programs.
Which one is the Center for the Performing Arts and the other is the Center for International Studies.
Back La la.
Tell me where you get your students from.
Those are students who come from other schools to your magnet program, correct?
Well, that's correct.
Northern lot of high school, we attract students from all over Atlanta.
We bus in approximately 1000 students every day from all over the city of Atlanta.
So about your basketball team looking for repeat, they're 60 minutes away from a possible repeat as that's true, our superintendent, Beverly Hall, coined the phrase focusing on student success, and that's on the court after court.
Notice the championship ring.
We're looking to do a repeat tonight.
These ladies have done an excellent job under the leadership of coach Kathy Washington.
You had to show off the ring, didn't you?
All right.
The principal portion of our program, well, it continues in just a couple of minutes.
Just go back over to Jim.
All right.
Thanks a lot, Rob.
Our halftime festivities roll on coming up soon here on TV.
We'll show you highlights of all the girls games played earlier today here in Macon, the single-A, the Double-A and the triple-A finals.
And they were some great games being played.
All right.
Now let's go back downstairs and triple.
I found yet another principal central going, that's Valerie.
Who are these little minions you're surrounding yourself with?
Well, this is Sarah Hanson.
She's one of our cheerleaders, one of our famous black knights.
And these are two future black knights.
They're my children.
So we're just excited about the rich history at Central.
We're the oldest school in Gwinnett County.
We're half a century old.
And the history and tradition in that school is just tremendous.
If you'll look at that audience over there, about half the people sitting there were black knights going to school.
And now they're parents of children who go to our school.
So it's just a wonderful place to be.
Tell me about that press box you guys.
Have you had this press box that shaped like a big giant castle?
Where did you guys get the loot to build something like that?
And the castle is just one of our famous places.
Even the planes look for that as a landmark.
And the castle is our press box.
And we have parties on the top floor press box in the middle, the concession stand on the bottom floor.
But our kids just they feel very proud of that.
And as a matter of fact, my son Barrett was a second grader when they started to build it.
And Barrett said to me, Mom, I just I can see the castle being built from my lunch room window.
So it's just wonderful.
You don't lack for any enthusiasm, do you?
Thanks for your time.
Let's go back to Jim's Pinocchio.
All right.
Thanks a lot, Robb.
Good to see the family in all their Black Night outfits.
Okay.
Early today, we had a bunch of basketball games we started this, went off at 12 noon, Jefferson and Westland, the single-A championship.
Jimmy Hall was dying at long distance early lead to Bozo from Jefferson had the hot hand as well.
Nice move underneath there to West Williams Danny, Bernie also came up strong.
Nice move here by Tina Bernie Melinda Floyd answers with a long distance and Holmes 14 points on the day Nicky Luckhurst got on the other step before she scores on the layup.
Nicky can also shoot it from you got a downtown but lead two bombs was just too much three pointer from the corner and then Lee DuBose takes it the length of the floor.
What an athlete?
21 points on the day.
Jeffries and celebrates their first state basketball championship, winning it over Wesleyan 5552.
All right.
The championship featured two great squads as well.
You Need County and Greater Atlanta Christian.
We have the highlights from it from earlier today.
Katie, Beth, Hey, you want to watch this?
Ladies, follow up on Jump Shot.
Look at this right there, Johnny on the spot.
Lauren eating out of the act here.
She scores three of her 14 points.
Nice shot by him.
You didn't count his Dana Barnes.
You betcha.
Another downtown shot.
Three pointers were the highlight of this one.
Hillary Hightower from Greater Atlanta Christian Hits the three that player of the game, Cheryl Baker the steal and then the easy layup and you want to watch Baker.
Baker was everywhere.
Watch who gets the loose ball here then finds Katy best paint underneath Nice play Katie Beth had eight points on the day but it was Baker who had the hot hand, the crossover dribble, the layup.
She had a game high 25 points greater Atlanta Christian wins it big over Union County 6341.
Congratulations to the ladies at Greater Atlanta Christian.
All right.
The triple-A championship in Gainesville at north east Mo Teke Sanford comes up with the steal.
And guess what?
She's going the distance, ladies and gentlemen.
There she goes.
Nice bucket there by Sanford.
Jasmine Hansen drives the lane and scores the layup for Gainesville.
Jennifer Hunter with the turnaround jumper watch her here.
Nice shot by Harper.
She had 13 points on the day Gainesville Delta The lady elephants were everywhere.
Tasha Humphrey from three Point Land and then Shamir Neal with the nice jumper there, the Humphrey boy, she had the she has a show she stole the show.
She stole this pass to watch her drive for the easy layup.
Makes it look so easy.
Jennifer Harper for Northeast had a great game herself.
Then comes up with the block and if that wasn't enough, she goes the distance, takes it off the glass nicely.
Jasmine Benson Big game though for for Gainesville scores on another three pointer.
Tosha Humphrey The play of the Game Dome Game high 23 points there, the great fake and the easy layup and the celebrate she was on for the lady elephants they win it over northeast 51 to 32.
The triple A championship winners for 2001 all right.
The quad championship is taking place now.
We're at halftime North Atlanta lead central Gwinnett, 2926.

Welcome back to the Quality Girls Championships.
As you can see, North Atlanta up on central Gwinnett, 29 to 26.
As each team, Herb seemed like it would make a run, another team would come back and hit a big shot.
Yeah, the first half really boiled down to two things.
In my opinion.
It was Central Gwinnett Defense Force, actually more turnovers in North Atlanta, able to do with their pressure and then the foul trouble on two of the central Gwinnett players keeping them on the bench Michelle Conklin and Coy White.
So but also Kelly Sanders sat out so all three of those players are going to be rested and should be a heck of a second half.
How could the game go so back and forth?
Let's show you.
We'll show you some highlights from the first half.
And here we go.
It was killing glass, getting things started for North Atlanta to the hole.
Nicely done.
And one and north Atlanta was off and running.
But don't count out central going.
And why?
Because they could hit the three pointer, Ashleigh.
Those says don't give me that ball.
The layup by Danielle Ingram.
Atlanta was off and running but central Gwinnett comes back below the jumper.
Nicely done by Stephanie Hicks.
It's a terrific player The north Atlanta with the ball nice pass.
Jenifer Goins completes it.
And there we go.
That's where it brings us to these numbers.
Does anything stand out for you here?
12% better on the shootings in north Atlanta, But turnovers about even so the ball game was really even and we're looking for a great second half scoop.
And here we go.
Third quarter was central Gwinnett on the attack and man to man by North Atlanta with a three point game.
Anything could happen and we're looking for a team to make a run, but it's been tight the entire way.
The long jumper by Goins is good.
Michelle Carson that time on the bench didn't hurt her a bit.
Conklin makes it 2929 and if she starts doing that, could be interesting.
Conklin a fine outside shooter.
We can tell that from warm up north Atlanta working the ball around with the ball fake trying to get it inside nicely Got easy layup and if they do that it's going to be a long night Great pass back Jonah Glass and way up front with the long bounce pass and Floyd finishes that nicely Kind of a low pass and what we've been seeing all night North Atlanta with that pressure it is Conklin who brings it up with the long pass and she's key not only to the outside, but she has a nice knack here for breaking that press.
She really sees the floor well, great peripheral vision for us that had that small vocabulary.
That's some side vision on your side that you can see.
Right.
The peripheral.
Exactly.
Thank goodness I brought my thesaurus 29 to 31, 31 to 29 553 North Atlanta.
We're glad you're with us for the quarter championships.
And it's been an exciting game.
We have a feeling it's going to go down to the wire.
We shall see some people going out on the move to the hall and it's blocked north.
Atlanta will try to get things started looking long.
If it's not there, they're going to slow it down.
I think Taylor Sanders got a piece of that and that's when she gets back in that game.
It makes it a lot tougher to score inside for central Gwinnett, a little bit of a scramble possession arrow going to north Atlanta.
So they will take possession.
Now, these ladies aren't afraid to get on the floor.
Michelle Coffin comes from a long way diving in there to get a hand on that ball.
She did it because she has good peripheral vision and saw the pass coming.
I thank her.
No, she did it because she's a gutsy player.
3129 624 left in goal make quarter.
No, no, no.
All right, Marion, nice shot up off the board, but no good.
And it looks like it's going to be going the same way.
It looks like there is a little push off on that.
Yeah, somebody pushed Kelly Sanders in the back.
Sometimes you can get it in if you do it low enough in the rough.
Doesn't see but not that time to block sucker punch first.
Okay I was on Stephanie Higgs.
I was afraid of zone play.
Why it would have been her third north Atlanta looking inside gets an inside shot up shot is off rebound and all of a sudden they seem to be controlling the offensive boards, getting a couple of shots at a time.
Well, they're a very strong offensive rebounding team, especially with Taylor Sanders in there it's been Sanders and Floyd dominating the inside up and a foul and that's the third foul on play right right there Sanders is just getting it underneath and putting it up and she's six three.
That's kind of easy to do.
Yeah, she just needs to just stick her hand straight up and let her get that wind when she's got that great possession.
There's really not much you can do except hope she misses a shot and blocked out Sanders As you can see, a 54% free throws shoot is actually almost as good trying to figure it out as on a lost or a foul shooting.
Actually, the lost art of shooting career.
Yeah, and I think the three point line is going to be move back in college, which I think everybody's ready to see is going to hurt in the game.
The second one is good, 3229 611 left third quarter north Atlanta by three.
And I'm watching the referee's count it off and I'll tell you what, I'm going to gets it over and has possession a nice pass by Conklin doesn't go but there's a found now that she has some vision.
Yeah nice job against the pressure again Stephanie Higgs beat two players on the dribble fouled Michelle Conklin she drove and dished and that's just textbook play against the press.
First team Jaffe Washington saying got to be a little more powerful central going up to the foul line really the pressure from the press has not affected center Gwinnett at all tonight.
Yeah, one or two turnovers, but actually I think they scored more on it than it's hurt them.
Lindsey more will try the second nice lead on 30 to 31 the six minute mark in the third quarter north Atlanta by one central Gwinnett.
What's the pressure and it has slowed down again just like we saw these sort of the middle of a second quarter.
Well it's Atlanta looking inside and why not working it around with the patience up.
And that is a shooter's roll.
Danielle Ingram, I'm telling you, she's a great athlete.
That was just great body control there.
Conklin, Try to bring it up and try to break this press.
And the question is, will it wear down central?
So far, it has not.
North Atlanta still on the man to man.
Well, Michel thought about that 25 footer for a moment, but wisely held up with a three point deficit on the trigger.
And both teams very deliberate offense right now looking for those good shots, looking inside and trying to work it back out, back into it to the hoop.
You talk about balance, maybe not a good shot in North Atlanta controls since they got to get the ball and Stephanie Hicks hands a little more even in the halfcourt offense to the hoop off balance no foul call boy boy White got away with one there We could hear it from here.
Bigs pulls up.
Nope Michelle Thompson right there for the rebound the deadly duo and that's what you were talking about.
If they get going, it's going to be an interesting game come the fourth quarter already adjusting 3433 again north Atlanta taking their time, looking inside to see if Sanders is there.
But no control ends up with the ball.
She's everywhere.
Sanders kind of lost her balance there and didn't see the pass coming.
Michelle just stepped in and stole it.
Around the horn.
They go, It's not baseball season, but spring training, but center Gwinnett working it around central Gwinnett that little bit of extra effort maybe because of losing to this team last year long shot up itself from the moment she shot it north Atlanta controls jump ball possession arrow going oh no foul I thought she held up both hands.
Oh my goodness.
Looked like Ashley Glass had a jump ball and they call the foul on Michelle Conklin.
That's a second when they call on her that was a little bit questionable.
Sure, she's a smart player, though.
Should be able to play without picking up those other two fouls.
She's so aggressive, though, on offense.
Sometimes you worry about a player like that picking up the offensive foul.
Here we go.
North Atlanta, looking inside.
Get it inside.
Nice shot.
Really nice.
Sanders A sense of where you are around that basket.
Well, here's the sense of where we are.
36, 33, north Atlanta with under four to go in the third quarter.
Sensational game so far takes trying to take it to the hoop pulls up Nice pass working it around the horn took it out got inside nicely done Sanders would have blocked on anybody else on the show play with the height and long range they able to get that one down white six to senior just score back and forth we go north Atlanta to languish on that and it is up and down and nonstop action Megan Ballard with that nice bank shot and run by Conklin.
Yes, it looks good.
You could tell when it was up.
Nicely done.
38, 38 to 54.
We're all tied up, girls court championship.
And as our old buddy Eldorado used to say, Hang on, brother and sister, we got another one brewing here tonight.
I love when you reminisce, but nobody knows who else around here was, of course, a two very famous broadcaster, the great Georgia Tech announcers of football, basketball, many years.
And another thing I like about these girl is female athletes.
They really know how to use the backboards do.
And again, you don't see as much of that as she used to for fourth foul.
And who was that on the on the glass is that on glass.
I believe it was on glass and it is four fouls and that is trouble.
You're right.
The girls are fundamentally sound, which is just the way they shoot the free throws up and good.
Yeah, I really bothers me when I see people miss layups because they don't use the back Florida.
They take that little shot from the side and don't use the backboard and miss it.
Maybe they watch you play where you always used to dunk the ball.
Ingram To shoot the backboard was my friend When you don't have that great touch we've got her down for fourth powered up good 4038 North Atlanta regains the legs control looking inside looking for the drive and why not just hit big three pointer open shot not to me this time but on the boards.
Nice work inside Stephanie Higgs two efforts up and in her up and through for the foul.
So Higgs will go to the line again just a sophomore five eight average 20 points a game this year and she's doing everything she probably did during the regular season can run the show, can hit inside and out her.
Yeah she's got the total package It's going to be a lot of people are going to be coming by her house in the next couple of years.
And I'm not just talking about boys talking about college recruiters.
Well, I'll tell you, when you look at the state championships and you look at some of the stars of all these teams, they are underclassmen, freshmen, sophomores, especially in the girls, Tristan and Tasha can think you.
But Tasha Woods, I think it is a great freshman we saw earlier today, 2039, 142 from a line was Higgs with 213 left third quarter notebook Latta very delivered very patient good passing Well that looked like a great steal and knocked it off the foot.
I don't know what they call them but Ashley little a little bit of a hack is what they're calling.
I guess you look clean from here, but not today.
They should just let us wear stripe shirts and call the games from here as well.
You know, we met the referees before their game, by the way.
They were very nice guys inside up and no get harder off the boards Central out with that girl again controlling and running with the ball slowing it down Good pressure by North Atlanta.
Yeah Heather Hawkins Nice anticipation.
Tough pass, perfect break.
Nice finish.
Well done.
Classic fast break passing there.
No over dribble.
Three passes in the layup.
Glass off the glass too.
Not that that's never been said, but we'll say it one more time.
4239 North Atlanta by three You get the feeling if one of these teams can get a run going and get out five or six, it could be the difference.
But so far nobody has been able to put that together.
Every run has been answered.
Central Gwinnett retains possession 121 left 4239 It has been tight the entire way.
Oh very, very well played ball games too well played well coached tight man.
A man from North Atlanta, something that his victims have been very patient long, high arching shot by Ashley Little makes it 45, 44, 40 to 42 tied up.
Nicely done.
We had time to go out, take a break and come back before that round.
Doesn't get much better than this.
Less than a minute to go.
Third quarter was Atlanta.
Looking inside.
They get it.
Is it afterwards?
Is it a foul underneath?
That was a defensive foul.
Will Megan Ballard be going to the free throw line the first quarter?
She's come in just a scrappy little player.
I was in the semifinals.
She did a lot of good things out there, 40 to 40 2 to 37 seconds left.
That was with the first up.
She did the game as well on the pass.
And I'm telling you, we're going to see a lot of these teams here next year at that ballot with the second off with the board, 44 to go to football game north Atlanta by one central Gwinnett very deliberate looking inside Conklin cutting a across and not to be and there a little bit of holding there Stephanie Higgs really doesn't get involved that much in the halfcourt offense she does when they take it against the press but when they get down to the halfcourt set, they don't look for her as much.
And I think they should look a little more.
I'm telling you, there's clinching, there's grabbing.
This is this is like a dance marathon contest.
First person out, 27 seconds to go in third quarter And this has been a great game and it's going to go down to the wire.
You're right here where we said Ron might just win this thing.
It may be whoever gets the ball wins it.
Let's hope so.
So that's the one that's inbound and there's a turnover and that hurts when you're going into the fourth quarter and you want to have a little bit of momentum.
Let's see what the North Atlantic can do on offense.
They're up by 120 seconds to go.
They keep track of that clock.
Yes, nine blocking inside shot is up, Shot is no good.
And ball over to Central going out and that's how I read what a quarter it was at a stayed tight one more quarter to go in the quarter girls championship 4342 North Atlanta over central Gwinnett.
We're back in a moment.

It's all right here on TBS.
You're watching the NCAA basketball championships on TV.
Hey, guys.
Great teams going back and forth, cheerleaders going back and forth, league changes going back forth.
Herb and I going back and forth.
Pretty good fashion tonight if it comes down to that.
Unbelievable.
14 for 17 for central Gwinnett and 12 to 15 for North Atlantic.
You know, central Gwinnett said they actually lost a few games during the regular season where they just because they would just point to this championship the whole year and they knew they were going to get here and now they're here.
So they're not laying off tonight.
Buckle your seat belts for the final 8 minutes.
Here we go.
In the quarter championship, It's a one point game and it has been fun to bring you.
I hope it's been fun to watch.
It's going to be interesting to watch.
It's going to be interesting to see how the referees call this fourth quarter.
Well, Megan Ballard right there trying to stop Stephanie Higgs, prevent her from getting the ball and picked up the foul right away center Gwinnett with the ball very patient in the second half offensively working it around the horn as we've been saying every possession when you go this slow and look for a shot is huge.
You can see how North Atlanta sought to extend that defense to her.
They're coming out and almost at half court digs behind them, back wheeling and dealing.
And if it goes, it was a terrific shot.
No, but the rebounder was there, as she has been a lot of the night.
Judy Bryant.
Yeah, she's really off the bench in place of play, right?
Played well, got several rebounds and a little out of control there for Stephanie Higgs, but trying to create something inside.
Boy, she can really whirl in a hurry.
Tension short can fly into the line, shooting.
Keep your eye on the foul shooting in this fourth quarter because it's going to be big.
Told you how good they were in the first three quarters, but now really counts.
Second one is up, second one is no good.
Every possession, every shot's big.
Now, in a game this close, this tied for the state championship.
North Atlanta now slowing it down.
Looking inside out shot is up off the back and no good.
But there's the rebound for north Atlanta and there's a foul now hoop and very well done Fiona Glass knocking on a glass for fouls she got in there and got that rebound is still aggressive kissed it up off the glass and got the shooters right free throws as she sees it Central Gwinnett 14 for 19 north about 12 to 15 but as her mentioned every shot is big in the fourth quarter.
Certainly this we've been waiting for a run.
Is it to be all right now by North Atlanta?
Well, as a 504. game, 4642 right now.
Let's see what happens in the final 650 when it's still attacking.
You know, it's funny, you watch North Atlanta, their defense is so extend it out.
You watch central Gwinnett, they're playing a little back and a little more packed.
Well, they don't have to.
Yeah, I mean, there's no really inside player that they have to worry about.
North Atlanta in central Gwinnett looking out of course, for Kelly Sanders inside George Washington as saw moments ago, looking for that championship for north Atlanta.
It's going to have to be Michelle Conklin and Stephanie Higgs is going to have to do it for central Gwinnett Cross pass.
Dangerous long shot when you're short like that, dazzling glass could do it for as little as a little.
One of those actually just a corner like we all do.
Just say yes.
Thank you.
There we go.
45, 46, 46, 45.
How do you look at it?
It's a one point game they're scrapping now and a foul.
Let's see the three or four on Michelle Collins, three on her.
And tough break because Kelly Sanders shot the ball over the rim looked like central when that was going to control the rebound they lost it in Michelle Conklin over the back.
Well when you come over the back, they're usually going to call it.
They're always going to call it so central with a big foul there.
First one up first and a nice follow through.
It doesn't get much more perfect than that.
Like England.
Yes, I saw a heck of a player all around game.
Great athlete, nice shooter.
I see them.
Good instincts, good rotation.
And it's 4845 north Atlanta by three the pressures again full court, full tilt here comes Hicks you get feeling that Central's got to answer again because it's so tight and just about 6 minutes to go in this ballgame He's just been I'm telling you right now beautiful shot clutch shot 4847 north Atlanta by one.
But they don't get much better than that Defensive player was draped all over her.
Well, it's Atlanta looking inside with their patience, passing in a triangle, just trying to find the open shot.
Taylor looking for Kelly Sanders instead of a central Gwinnett, really packing it back in the paint.
Now it is the help defense you can tell on the outside.
Everyone looking inside to make jumper pass and good they're working around whether Hawkins with a nice 12 footer in that in that mid range jumper is a tough one to make from the baseline and she knocked it down like she does it every day Pigs with the ball two for nine from the field but that last one was huge.
As Karen mentioned, they all get big now with the ball looking inside and it's Conklin and Higgs.
The two major factors right here the spin the other way.
Nice pass inside, but no good and you have to convert those.
Yeah that was huge.
Remember that won by Lindsey more of the missed layup 456 left in this quarter championship North Atlantic by three Stephanie Higgs that's what she did what you want her to do but the next time she takes the shot instead of pass it off north Atlanta totally controlling the pace of this game offensively certainly nice steal by heads it down and looking for the good shot.
He's looking for Conklin too.
He wants the three pointer and time ticking away still down to less than four and a half minutes in looking for a pick and gets it north Atlanta with pressure all over the court making sure there are no open jump shots and a turnover not even with pressure on the break North Carolina.
Oh, good.
And that's a bad play.
All right.
We're out of Conklin picks up a fourth possible three point play and nicely done by North Atlanta.
Well Michelle had that one to do Oh, there's either backs away or she hammers so much bigger than Megan going in on that shot.
And if you're going to find somebody in this situation, don't let them score is to take almost the arm off as we like to say Timeout Central going out and that's the biggest lead we've seen in a while.
Five points, probably the biggest lead since really early in the ballgame.
Well, it's been a fast paced game that's illicit in almost all classes come in major classes after dynamite broke it we still got four time will take a five out of ten but whoever's man out, they're going to go get ready.
They're going to go put it on blue.
Let me take you inside the huddles.
Well, Coach Gasol, I could make out what he was saying.
He said, Day, step in.
Don't let him intercept any more passes.
We're not coming to meet the ball.
He's a quick players.
He said, If you get in trouble having nobody to pass to we got four timeouts left call the timeout maybe just a little doubt on the faces of central Gwinnett as they walked out of that huddle that time power to shoot and complete a three point play and try to make it a six point lead which in this game would be enormous.
Oh good no good off the court talking to Higgs.
What a combination they are the Kings is going to take it to the hole and a block not too big bucks Atlanta great block by the own a glass giving up about five inches and getting that block and as we mentioned under 4 minutes 5247 north Atlanta looking inside somehow it got inside but not completed.
And here we go, Higgs again, rebounding.
Here's CARSEN.
What will she do?
Hold it up and look for a good shot.
Yep.
What's Atlanta back on defense.
Did a good job here.
There's six That's a three point line to the hoop once he gets out.
Nope.
Back outside.
Off.
No Good.
But hey, is there anyone that made be five on to own a glass if the foul was on her?
Sometimes better to be lucky than good and be in the right place for herself for personal.
Our crack statistician.
We won't mention anybody.
He's crack it up more than he's cracked, but we're glad to have him here.
Higgs with a foul shot, nothing to it.
And all of a sudden it's a two point game, 50 to 50 North Atlanta by two with 323 left.
Central Gwinnett extending the defense inside out.
No good staying on the boards it's north Atlanta still no good.
Another tap, no good.
Four shots.
No good And finally, someone grabs the ball and it is wide for Gwinnett well Coach Gasol lost a few more hairs and some of them turned gray, but they came away with nothing after four attempts at it.
Nice try by North Atlanta, but they came up empty with that one.
Johnson Working around on the perimeter, looking for a good open shot or something inside Ashley Little and digs.
She likes that spin move.
She also likes dishing it off.
Nicely done.
That's why I said they got to get her the ball in the half court offense.
She can create ten inside, 50 to 50 to your right, her 230 loss.
And here we go.
1 to 2.
They're packing it in.
Whistle on the play.
What did they say?
How about a timeout?
What we've been telling you from the opening opening buzzer that this was going to be a terrific game.
And here we go in the replay open to white Nice layup Stephanie digs great court awareness.
And you're right, Stu, we don't want to knock ourselves out patting ourselves on the back.
But and this was a no brainer.
You looked at these two teams.
I saw them in the semifinals, saw they were both on top of their games.
And you could just tell the reminds me that Savannah game last night and the Savannah Burt-Murray game the voice championship just two well-coached teams that have been here before came out right from the opening gun at their games, throwing one haymaker after another at each other very quickly before they get the ball back Then what does that have to do?
What is North Atlanta have to do?
And the players we look to just continue to do what they're doing.
And, you know, it's just going to come down to one break, maybe a free throw or two.
Why am I sweating?
I'm not even out there because this is a heck of a ballgame and you're into it north Atlanta to trigger it.
And it is a heck of a ballgame.
2 to 2 left, 5252.
Those are the perfect numbers.
Long pass, dangerous pass that north Atlanta somehow controls.
Now they spread it out.
Defense It's extended by central.
Well, this is a time in the ballgame that the big players are supposed to step up and do it for you.
Sometimes those 15 footers look like 30 footers.
Oh, man, that's not a close call.
Tough call, too.
Neil Floyd throwing her weight around, but she got the call there.
She'll go to the line for two and it'll say all throws from here on in on huge Floyd, a five team senior team coach Gasol pretty good vertical jump himself after that call took a walk all the way down the bench hustling no good off the back room memories that will stay with you forever It does matter and you know that got I was never that you played some great college basketball played in the pros I'm sure you remembered your high school as banged up and good so it's 5352 2 minutes to go exactly north Atlanta takes controlling picks looking to go to the hole, lets it off, puts it off and the ball is short North Atlanta tries to control it see what we got it the six out of bounds issue was a little bit of a short arm on that jumper on the side but now central Gwinnett may try to put some pressure on here, see if they can create something, but they're just going to pick up about three quarter court.
They've got to pay attention, get back down the floor to help out on Kaitlyn Sanders.
Coach Washington could do some deodorant commercial.
She looks very, very calm, but inside has to be hoping maybe they hold on and hit some of those shots.
What a game it has been under 140 to go.
Well, they really got their big lineup.
They got Heather Hawkins and Bailey Sanders both in there for the offensive rebounds.
Now, North Carolina trying to get him inside.
There's the steal Carson leading the way and they slow it back up low with 123 left Higgs with the ball She's been sensational tonight long three pointer could it be a full quarter was it a three way shot by little?
And let's see what they do here.
I thought it might have been over the three point line.
Let's see they give her a two right now.
What a shot off balance.
Europe.
Did you see?
Was it just a two.
Just a two.
Well, just a two.
But miss.
No, that's a 3.3.
But so far on the scoreboard they have a two person.
Have you seen a high school game where the referees have looked at a replay?
No, we better turn this away.
She was a foot outside the line.
And she was indeed.
And just remember that play and this is a one point game, Ashley Little and I thought that was a three her.
Well, what was this you know so they did give her 330 to Yeah so a four point play possibly coming up in a huge huge shot by little Ashley little off balance.
Wow.
12 points.
None bigger than that shot.
Nope and no good.
So 55, 53 Central up with 112 to go north Atlanta in control of the ball.
Looking inside you got to look for magic girl inside Kaylie Sanders right now north Atlanta is central Gwinnett taking it in.
There's a and it is huge one of these things over the conference they have been 2 to 4 the second half intentional foul I believe yeah well they're not going to call intentional I don't think that's a tough call for north Atlanta because this a team that's going to go that free throw line especially Michelle Cochran and try to knock them down anyhow.
So trail mix both of them.
You're looking at a four point deficit.
Still plenty of time, though.
Don't come down.
And Jack, the three out, unfortunately.
Well, they're going to take Kaylie Sanders out of the ballgame.
What a career for confidence for your starter side, by the way, to go to Appalachian State.
So they've got a fine player there.
Yeah, I watched her in the championship game last year and she played a great ball game.
I was just heartbroken at the end of the game.
But Diggs was just a freshman last year, not able to help her nearly as much.
But they've been pointing at this game all year.
But North Atlanta is not going to quit.
I'll guarantee you the story of this, the story of this game, the 5050, 53 central point net with 51 left can get any better than this.
Duke doesn't get much better than this.
Here we go.
She makes both of these.
It's a four point game.
You can still come down and try to get the quick three.
Oh, my goodness.
North Atlanta has a lot of life still attacking it.
Another big turnover, T last possession serves the ball going the other way.
Think I might have got a timeout before that play to know what I was going to set up.
A little miscommunication between Megan Ballard and Heather Hawkins down the what a can has been, what a game it has been for Gwinnett.
Are they going to try to score again?
I don't see why they would, but they may try to go and put the ball in them in self confidence hands or or Stephanie Hicks.
And you know if they can create something, get a shot, find that, why not try to run the clock down?
They're going to have to fire the goal line and make a mistake unless it's a layup.
I'm not sure you'd want to take it.
Let's listen in and see if we can tell what it going to be.
Well, first they got to get the ball in bounds, which has been tough a couple of times against this North Atlanta defense.
They are quick.
They've been pressing the entire night, especially Daniels.
And she came up with some huge steals the other night right at the end of the ballgame.
So keep an eye on her number 21 from North Carolina.
She's going to be floating, trying to help.
Carson will inbound it.
You want your best passer.
And there it is.
Haig's in control and back and forth they go.
Those are the two you might want to have, as Herb mentioned, always be in back of the player, Stephanie Higgs, looking up at the sky, taking a couple of deep breaths, knowing what she's got to do.
Now, those coaches will tell you if you're pressing, always have that safety valve, your teammates behind you so you can always pass it back.
And that's what happened there.
All right.
Here we go.
It's 36 seconds left.
Gives it to Fowler.
They've missed their last couple, which is kind of on center going out like, let's see what happens here.
Come and play 5653, central Gwinnett by three.
All right, one more basket and you got a two possession game where as we know, it's going to make it very, very difficult if she can can this one up and go North Carolina down by 435 seconds left Let's watch working get around Ingram's got to take the shot when she gets the ball.
Higgs called for the foul up front.
Well, you don't want to stop that clock, that's for sure.
Reagan Ballard five six JR I'm just guessing the two biggest foul shots in her career and a timeout.
Good idea.
25 seconds left.
5753 Central got that up and then well neither one of those ball games still where you just hate to see somebody lose when both of them have played their hearts out for the state championship and certainly not over yet but central Gwinnett in the driver's seat.
Even if North Atlanta makes both of these free throws, they're going to have to come up with a steal or a foul and then get the ball back.
But we've been talking about long game, long start shooting.
Listen in and see what they've got.
Cooking.
I don't blame the coaches whispering right now.
She's saying, hey, those guys over there, keep looking.
Just listen.
Going to I'm going to whisper to you guys, we talked about the foul shots.
Takes 11 for 13.
And then I'm guessing in those last three she just made.
Well, it's going to come down to fashion.
And here we go.
Well, that's the essential Gwinnett right here.
You want to make sure if Megan Ballard does miss these free throws that you come up with a rebound, you can't afford an offensive.
Back now, Megan Ballard just went up.
First one, no good.
All right.
Now most start to think about maybe I want to miss this one on purpose and hope we can come up with it because you're down four with only 25 seconds to go.
You really need more than one point here and confident thinking the same thing Coach is saying.
Take the shooter.
Second one up.
Second one.
No good rebound?
Nope.
Atlanta had a good luck.
One more time up and good.
Well, that's exactly what you didn't want to have happen.
And Heather Hawkins actually got it.
The first half looked like she got fouled.
Could have been a three point play.
She didn't get it, but she stuck with it and put it back.
So now very, very interesting.
Again, a nickel drop when you're six one, you don't have to reach up too high.
So let's set it up for you.
20 seconds to go.
5755 central Gwinnett up.
And let's go into the huddle and see what's cooking again.
Coach Purcell drawing up his inbounds play.
First thing you got to do is get that ball and bounce back the ball, then go foul quite like, oh, okay.
Oh, you can run by shells.
You have to get it high.
I still got so I can get it.
All right now go make the final shot.
I'll tell you this one.
When our coaches to tell us to run the baseline he be careful.
One thing when you run a big trip, don't throw it off the other backboard some time when you're running down it.
I have seen it happen before.
So let's see what happens again.
20 seconds to go.
5755 central back to North Carolina with the full court pressure here.
We got a foul right away.
You would think they're not ready for the turnover.
There is the foul.
Well, a nice takedown.
Look at Ashley.
Little became a lazy boy.
I don't know if that was intentional by Danielle Ingram or not, but she gave her the old gluteus maximus in the stomach.
Now, I don't know if she's been watching Dr. J or some WWL, but here we go We actually watch this now as she starts to get up Oh that's got to be an intentional right there that is a terribly personal foul 2403 So here we go Ashley Little tries to gain her composure, not to say anything about her breath.
I've heard of being the butt of a joke before, but that was the By the way, if you're here in making her, we'll be at the funny bone for we got a little more serious business.
57, 55, 15 seconds left.
Ashley Little trying to put a little bit of Christian excuse the expression between, her and north Atlanta.
She's got a little extra incentive right here, no doubt about it.
Go good.
Nice follow through.
And you need this one.
Yeah, I'm sure they would have liked to get the ball in Stephanie Higgs or Michelle confident hands, but end up with Ashley and she needs to make this one to make sure that shit North Atlanta come down and get the three.
They don't lose the ball game it doesn't serve.
If she misses do you call a or run it up against them.
What's your theory on that?
I think I just come on up the floor with it and see what we've got in the half court.
Said you can get it up and then get it to half court and then maybe call a timeout with 10 seconds to go.
Ashley Hall is good.
5855, 15 seconds to go.
600 my goodness.
Possession hell still north Atlanta ball.
Well that's a great heads up play by little as well right there They tried to roll the ball in and keep the time from moving on the clock So they used up about well they didn't any time off the clock unbelievably.
Wow Pretty smart heady play.
I like how you said that to Ashley.
Little don't believe that no time came now Alex Michelle conference coming up and saying we didn't get any time off that clock should be at least a second or two.
Yes you would think so.
And I have to check the pedigree of that time over there.
Maybe a North Atlanta fan.
Let's go to a huddle cam once again.
This is our baseline, very calm, collected in that huddle, saying this is our game, setting up the play.
They got to go for the three here, though, they have no choice.
It reminds me of a prizefighter once got almost knocked out.
This is our game instantly, I believe I come out in some kind of halfcourt trap, try to make them use a lot of clock and have to force up a three with some pressure on him.
But we're going to see it looks like it's going to be man to man pressure all the way there.
Your timeout Central has 3 to 4 north Atlanta has one more timeout It's a throw of course you could some people say foul in this situation they only going to get two shots and then you still got the lead and the ball myself I just play heads up defense right here and make them hit the three.
I love when the wheels are turning on love.
When the wheels are turning to tell me, just play her.
Don't think you're hurting the team North Atlanta trying to trigger it and then they do well see long three pointer off the back of the rim North Atlantic controls and we'll get another shot 8 seconds to go There's a steal central with Higgs getting it No that's intentional.
They Go Wow.
North Atlanta had two shots until they had that turnover.
Well, looked like that one might be another.
Those head of the key bank shots, it rolled off and we're talking about Coach Gasol, his dad, how good of a coach his dad was said last time he's in the States.
His dad played golf instead of coming in watching tonight he is watching.
He might be seeing his son get a state championship.
4 seconds to go central by three with a chance to really ice it away unless it's a miracle.
And I don't see how that would work in the narrative.
They get the two free throws and they also get the ball back so central when that's going to go home with a little revenge in the state championship in north Atlanta, a great run, almost two championships in a row.
Couldn't quite get it done tonight.
I don't want to ever say a game out of reach, but with 4 seconds to go 60 to 55, I think you can call central Gwinnett recorded girls champions.
What a game it has been from the opening set for 19 points for Stephanie Higgs tonight, 13 of them coming from the free throw line and none bigger than those two.
She hit not just in, but a couple about a minute ago when she stepped up there and drained those two and really made it tough when North foot north Atlanta had to go for the two point or the three pointer, I think Central controlled themselves.
They didn't do anything too radical in the press.
North Atlanta came at them and they just held their own ground.
As you mentioned, they played their game and they did it well.
You know, the pressure never really a factor in this ballgame.
The full court press for central Gwinnett just kept their composure and actually used the press to get a lot of easy shots and some layups.
And you live and die by the press.
Yeah, that's what's going to happen.
You either get the turnovers, are you going to give up good shots to the other team?
It has been an interesting game, hard fought and central Gwinnett has done a terrific job.
North Atlanta had some some some shots at the end of the game.
I thought they were going to get that that one more chance to do some damage, but it was not to be.
Yeah, very slim difference in these two ball clubs.
But, you know, it's got to be really extra sweet for central Gwinnett coming against the team that put them out in the state championship last year.
We will be seeing a lot of mistakes.
Only a sophomore should win a state title.
Amazing.
She's going to put up some incredible numbers before she's done inbound new point game.
Not over with one click of the clock.
Coach Washington said why foul?
Good question.
But sometimes it's just a reflex action.
So the only thing that'll change is the final score.
Well, Coach Wiseman writes he wants the team to go out with class.
Just take your hats off to the other team.
